Why Every Girl Needs Her Tribe | #IWD2018

March 8 is celebrated around the world as the International Women's day. I was more than lucky to spend it at the Women's Initiative Edmonton's #PressforProgress event alongside such empowering women and a few men who celebrates the contribution of women in the city and acknowledges the many of us still struggles with.

They had different booths for volunteer opportunities and some fun activities. I made sure to go to each one of them and before I know it, I have so much application papers and business cards on my hands. It was fun though. There were food, too, but I was so full of smiles I couldnt even be bothered to eat.

Ive had a picture of a group of women on my vision board for a while. I think that's what Ive been craving for the longest time, my own tribe.

But first, who are your tribe? Those are the ones who are good for your soul. Who makes you want to step up. Who pushes you to become better and are willing to go with you through the process. Those who are there not to make your problems look smaller, but to highlight your successes and make them bigger.

I think every girl needs her own tribe in order to navigate life. With friends who just gets you, you can bounce ideas off of, you learn from each other and from each other's mistakes, you have support, encouragement, accountability. They will be there to make sure you dont feel alone when you dont want to be.

I cant help but look at the photos below and think to myself, "wow, I look so happy.." It's wonderful how the universe works. When you put out an intention out there and you take every opportunity it hands to you, everything just conspires in your favor.

I stand
on the sacrifices
of a million women before me
what can i do
to make this mountain taller
so the women after me
can see further

- My favorite poem by Rupi Kaur, Legacy

If there's one thing I learned in this event, that's to never leave her behind. And to never leave her behind means asking questions and listening genuinely. Means pulling her up with you once youve reached a certain point. I feel lucky to be in a time where I can live and enjoy in a way that the ones before me never got to, and I promise with everything I have, I'm not taking it for granted.
